Following the Dales Council League AGM our very own Bernard Greaves has been appointed as League Secretary, Bernard has prepared the handbook and will take over all aspects of administration within the league.
The Cup draw for the 2008 Pool Paper Mills and Cawthorne Cups has taken place and for once the draw has looked kindly upon all of our teams with byes through to the 2nd round for all. The tie of the round in the Pool Paper Mills Cup could well be local rivals Shipley Providence taking on Leeds Sikh, whilst an interesting draw in the Cawthorne Cup means New Farnley C will be at home to New Farnley B. The full draw can be found in the 'Cups' section.

A Cruel Blow
The club was rocked by some devastating news prior to the new season when it learnt of a serious injury to one of it's key players, who now looks to be ruled out for the entire 2008 season. Darren Wilson, successful captain of the 3rd XI for the previous 2 seasons suffered what eventually proved to be a serious knee ligament injury whilst playing Sunday League football prior to Christmas. Following several mis-diagnoses and attempted come-backs the club sought the top man in the field. Darren flew to America and following consultation with Dr. Richard Steadman (the surgeon who worked on Michael Owen's recent injury prior to the World Cup) it was confirmed that, like Owen, Darren had torn his anterior cruciate ligament. Darren is set to go under the surgeon's knife at the beginning of March and following 2 week's complete rest the long and painful road to recovery begins. Understandably upset by this news Darren is determined to make as quick a recovery as possible and hopes to return fully fit in 2009. The club will miss his batting and wicket-keeping skills as well as the potential dream patnership with Ross Todd in the Evening League. Although there will be a small cube shaped hole left in the playing staff Darren is keen to remain an integral figure at the club, offering his considerable cricket knowledge and enthusiasm during nets, at games and assisting with the junior team. "It has come as a real blow to my plans for the coming season, Darren is a huge loss to both me and the club............ you couldn't spare £10 could you?" said a concerned Ross Todd when we caught up with him casting a lonely looking figure in William Hill, Baildon. The club offers Darren it's full support during his recuperation and is now seeking legal advice as it attempts to claim compensation for the earlier mis-diagnoses that have hampered his recovery.

Club Merger
At the Baildon Meths Annual General Meeting it was officially decided by the members to go ahead with the proposed merger with baildon Cricket Club that had been trialled during the 2007 season. The club will now be known as Baildon Cricket Club, continuing to operate 5 senior teams - 2 in the Bradford League and 3 in the Dales Council League. The Evening League side will continue to play in the Bradford and District Evening League on Wednesday nights retaining the name of Baildon Meths and playing games at both the West Lane and Jenny Lane grounds. As a result of the merger there will be a new committee in charge as well as a restructuring of the club membership and subscription charges. Fear not Baildon Meths players - the new subscriptions should work out cheaper than the previous policy. Baildon Meths players will also now benefit from better practice facilities, a clubhouse and bar, which is also available to hire for events, more opportunities for junior players to play and the opportunity to progress through the teams and play Bradford League cricket.
